The Sacraments

The Catholic Church recognizes seven sacraments: Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, and Matrimony. These sacraments are outward signs instituted by Christ that give grace to those who receive them worthily. Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist are called the sacraments of initiation because they bring a person fully into the Church. Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick are sacraments of healing, offering forgiveness and spiritual or physical strength. Holy Orders and Matrimony are sacraments of service, helping people live out their vocation in the Church and in the world.
